Magomed Ramazanov secured the Olympic title in the up to 86 kilogram freestyle wrestling category. He dominated the final against Iranian legend Hasan Yazdani, winning 7-1.
This adds to Bulgaria’s three gold medals in Paris, following victories from Semyon Novikov and Carlos Nassar.
The match started with Yazdani grabbing Ramazanov’s shoulder and attempting to stop the fight. He called for a medical timeout after 43 seconds and repeated the action shortly before the end of the first period. Ramazanov secured the only point after pushing Yazdani off the mat. The Iranian retaliated but ultimately succumbed to Ramazanov’s dominance.
Yazdani called for a medical timeout at the start of the second half as well, choosing to rest rather than continue the match.
Magomed Ramazanov was born in Oktyabarskoe, Dagestan, and competes for the “Ilia Pavlov” club in Veliko Tarnovo. He refused payment for his participation and served a two-year sentence for violating regulations.
Bilyana Dudova advanced to the repechage and will face Mongolian Orkhon Purevdorzh tomorrow at noon. She will then compete against Olympic vice-champion Tininbekova (Kyrgyzstan) in the small final.
