Massacre Trial: Unanswered Questions and Accountability Concerns
We closely followed the trial of the alleged perpetrators and witnesses of the September 28, 2009 massacre. While we commend the efforts of the court, certain facts and details remain unanswered.
- Location of mass graves?
- Responsibility of officers beyond perpetrators?
- Freedom of movement and access to victims?
- Capabilities for terrorism and violence?
- Composition and whereabouts of the Chelsea club?
- Origins of the order to commit the carnage?
- Identity and actions of individuals in civilian clothes?
- Absence of senior officers as witnesses?
- Closure and accountability for victims?
- Number of casualties and missing persons?
Days before the verdict, victims and associations express disappointment as the trial appears to have reached a dead end. The full truth, they argue, remains untold, with potential perpetrators still at large. This echoes historical events like the Rwandan genocide and Nuremberg trials, where accountability remained elusive despite public pronouncements of closure.
