Nicolás Maduro was re-elected president of Venezuela, according to the National Electoral Council. However, the opposition accuses him of fraud in the recent elections.
The National Electoral Council (CNE) declared Nicolás Maduro the winner of the presidential election in Venezuela, despite the opposition questioning the results and demanding transparency in the vote review.
After the CNE president, Elvis Amoroso, ratified the reelection, the president requested “respect for the popular will.”
According to the announced results, Maduro will serve another six years, extending his mandate until January 2031.
The announcement of Maduro’s victory was disputed by the opposition, with leaders María Corina Machado and Leopoldo López accusing the election of fraud.
Opposition leader María Corina Machado claimed victory, stating, “Venezuela has a new president-elect and it is Edmundo González Urrutia. We won and everyone knows it.”
The CNE reported that Maduro won with 51.2% of the votes, while González Urrutia received 44.2%. However, the opposition leader maintained that her candidate received 70% of the votes, while Maduro received 30%.
Maduro, who secured his second re-election after taking office in 2013, celebrated his victory as the triumph of national independence and the dignity of the Venezuelan people. He claimed that the sanctions and threats from other countries were the reason for his re-election.
He also promised to dedicate his life to implementing necessary changes in the country.
