UN Secretary-General Denies Imaginary War in Moroccan Sahara
United Nations (New York) - By characterizing the situation in the Moroccan Sahara as featuring “low intensity hostilities,” the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, categorically denied in his report to the Security Council on the Sahara the fabricated news of war between the ”polisario” and Algeria.
The UN Secretary-General also noted that the number of incidents reported along the Moroccan Sahara Defense system has steadily decreased since January 2021.
Mr. Guterres called on the “polisario” to respect the ceasefire and military agreements, emphasizing that these violations constitute a major obstacle to the search for a political solution to the regional dispute. He added that these actions and the restrictions imposed on MINURSO also threaten the operational and political environment in which the UN Mission operates.
In this context, the UN Secretary General condemned the effective abrogation of the ceasefire by the “polisario” and reminded this armed separatist group that its actions jeopardize the stability of the region.
