Edmundo González Urrutia awaited the election results with anticipation, while María Corina Machado urged the Venezuelan population to defend their votes and remain at the polling stations until the final count.
Jorge Rodríguez, head of Nicolás Maduro‘s campaign, predicted a possible victory for the incumbent president after polls closed, despite the opposition candidate Edmundo González Urrutia.
Rodriguez assured that, “We cannot give results, but we can give faces. It has been a victory for everyone,” while he was accompanied by the number two in the Venezuelan government, Diosdado Cabello, and other leaders.
Maduro’s campaign chief emphasized that “this presidential election and its result mark the definitive defeat of extremist forces and the aggressors who attack the Venezuelan people from abroad.”
Jorge Rodríguez stated that the election results demonstrate the Venezuelan people’s defiance against violence.
Meanwhile, Edmundo González Urrutia expressed his anticipation after the election, while María Corina Machado urged the population to remain vigilant at the polling stations until the final count.
“We want to ask all Venezuelans to stay in their voting centers and keep vigil there. We have fought all these years for this day, these are the crucial minutes,” Machado said.
María Corina Machado, accompanied by González, stressed that they have their own counting system in place to prevent potential fraud. “We have the figures, but we cannot give them out,” she said.
