The Colombian cycling team still has a chance to win an Olympic medal at the Paris 2024 Games, thanks to the upcoming men’s keirin event. This event will feature double national participation, consisting of Cristian Ortega and reigning world champion, Kevin Quintero.
Both cyclists are motivated to avenge their performance in the sprint event earlier this week.

Quintero, who was heavily favored, was eliminated in the preliminary round, finishing in 25th place, just 0.581 hundredths of a second away from advancing. Meanwhile, Ortega qualified by finishing in twelfth place and went on to eliminate the French rider Rayan Helal. However, he lost in the next round to the British Jack Carlin, and again in the repechage to the Japanese Yuta Obara, ultimately ending his participation.
Both Cristian Ortega and Kevin Quintero will have the opportunity to redeem themselves in the keirin. Notably, Quintero, who carried the Colombian flag at the Olympics, also reached the final of the javelin throw alongside Flor Denis Ruiz.
The first round of the men’s keirin is scheduled to start at 10:19 AM (Colombian time). All eyes are on Kevin Quintero, who is still fresh off his victories as the world champion in Glasgow, Scotland last year and the recipient of the Altius Gold Award for Colombian Athlete of the Year in January.
