League Cup Round of 16: American dominance under threat?

The conclusion of the Round of 32 in the 2024 League Cup saw America secure their place in the next stage, but their dominance is facing a serious challenge. Six Liga MX teams remain in the competition, determined to end the MLS‘s reign. América, Cruz Azul, Pumas, Tigres, Toluca, and Mazatlán FC are the Mexican clubs still in the running.
The action kicks off on Monday with Pumas facing Seattle Sounders. Revenge will be on the minds of the university students, who lost to the Americans in the 2022 Concachampions Final.
The following day will see a flurry of activity, with the remaining games in the round taking place. The clash between Cruz Azul and Mazatlán FC is particularly intriguing, as the latter has impressed in the competition.
If both Las Águilas and Toluca win their respective ties, they will face each other in the Quarter Finals. The Red Devils will take on the Colorado Rapids, while FC Juárez will be hoping to overcome executioner.
Tigres, who eliminated Pachuca in the previous round, will face New York City FC in the Round of 16.
