(Web Desk) In Bangladesh, renowned Bengali actor Shantu Khan and his father, director and producer Salim Khan, were also victims of angry mobs during the recent unrest in the country following the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajid.
According to Bangladeshi media reports, Salim Khan, owner of a Bangladeshi production house and a former supporter of Sheikh Hasina, was expelled from the Awami League. He was also a prolific producer and director, having worked on several films, including one based on the life of Bangladesh’s first president, Mujibur Rahman.
Media reports suggest that both Shantu and his father were attempting to flee Bangladesh amidst the ongoing protests when they were confronted by an angry mob in the Chandpur area. A report from a Bengali newspaper claims that in self-defense, the pair fired pistols, but the protesters retaliated and tragically claimed their lives.
Shantu made his debut in the Bengali film industry in 2019 and quickly gained recognition for his talent in various popular Bengali films. The industry expresses deep sorrow over his loss.
Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Hasina Wajid resigned on Monday following widespread public protests and subsequently fled to India. Protests have erupted across the country, with houses being attacked and at least 29 individuals associated with the Awami League found dead in different locations.
