The Bulgarian Parliament recently adopted, in its second reading, amendments to the Law on Credit Institutions (LKI). These amendments aim to align the national legal framework with European regulations and the role of the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) within the Single Supervisory Mechanism following the adoption of the euro.
The amendments also address the Anti-Corruption Law, expanding the circle of competent authorities authorized to conduct checks in the Central Credit Register and the Register of bank accounts and safes. This includes the Commission for Illegally Acquired Property and the Commission for Combating Corruption. Additionally, the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ structures are added to the list of entities with access to the BNB’s information system.
During the debate, Dimo Drenchev from “Vazrazhdane” proposed removing the access of the two aforementioned directorates, but his proposal was rejected with 53 votes in favor, 99 against, and 4 abstentions.
The bill was initially voted on in its first reading on July 26.
