Russian-Ukrainian Conflict: Ukrainian Forces Attempt Border Breach in Kursk Region
A representative of the Kursk region in Russia reported an attempt by Ukrainian forces to break through to the Sudzhansky and Korenevsky districts of the region. Ukrainian officials have not commented on this statement. Additionally, a group of saboteurs reportedly entered Russian territory early in the morning of August 6th. The acting governor, Alexey Smirnov, confirmed the incident on Telegram.
The Kursk regional authorities stated that the FSB border service and Russian armed forces successfully prevented the border breach.
Smirnov emphasized the importance of relying only on official sources of information and avoiding provocations. The Russian Defense Ministry has not officially confirmed the report.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces have not released an official statement regarding the incident. This is not the first attempt to breach the border in the Kursk and Belgorod regions. Earlier this year, similar attempts were claimed by the “Russian Volunteer Corps,” “Freedom of Russia” legion, and “Siberian Battalion,” groups opposed to the Russian regime.
The governor reported five casualties in the city of Sudzha, including three children. Several residential buildings were damaged, with a full inspection to be conducted once the situation permits.
Smirnov also reported that 26 Ukrainian drones were shot down over the region. Multiple missile alerts were declared in the Kursk and Belgorod regions earlier in the day. A fire broke out in the Sudzhansky district, along with reports of missile and drone debris falling in a residential area.
