jpnn.comBANDUNG – Indonesian telecommunications company Telkomsel has devised a sustainable solution to manage SIM card shell waste.
According to Saki Hamsat Bramono, Telkomsel’s Deputy Director of Corporate Communications and Social Responsibility, the company recycles the waste into paving blocks and phone holders through their Jaga Bumu initiative.
“We believe in conducting business responsibly, with a focus on environmental and social impact,” Saki stated, citing a recent initiative launched in August.
He explained that many users simply discard SIM card packaging and shells after extracting the SIM card. Unlike plastic bottles, which hold significant value, SIM card shell waste is categorized as low-value.
Since the inception of Jaga Bumi in 2022, Telkomsel has recycled enough waste to create 75,000 paving blocks and 20,000 cellphone stands.
The company is committed to implementing ESG (environment, social, government) principles through initiatives like Jaga Bumi.
Additionally, Telkomsel runs a customer loyalty program that allows users to convert their accumulated Telkomsel Points into trees. Each transaction, such as mobile top-up or bill payments, earns points, with the amount varying based on the transaction amount.
Telkomsel’s sustainable practices are a testament to their dedication to environmental responsibility and their commitment to making a positive impact on the world.
