Two persons have been arrested in Perambalur for selling counterfeit gold coins and embezzling more than Rs 8 lakh.

Two persons have been arrested in Perambalur for selling counterfeit gold coins and embezzling more than Rs 8 lakh. Varadarajan, a resident of Ladapuram village, had sold 23 gold coins weighing 8 grams to the assistant manager of a private jewelery company in Perambalur on the 16th and received Rs. 8 lakhs and 30,000. The company sent the purchased gold coins to their headquarters in Bangalore, where they found that they were all gold-plated counterfeit gold coins. The company has lodged a complaint with the police. Police have registered a case and are identifying Varadarajan through surveillance camera footage and are investigating. The investigation found that Balamurugan, a resident of Chettikulam, was the mastermind and bought two genuine gold coins and cut them in half and put them together with gold plated coins to avoid suspicion. Following this, the police filed a case against the two fraudsters and produced Varadarajan and Balamurugan in the Perambalur court this morning and remanded them in judicial custody.
