Western Digital unveiled two new SSDs at a demo held at the FMS. These upcoming drives are expected to hit the market in approximately six months. According to WDC manager Eric Spanneut, the faster model achieved a read speed of nearly 15 GBytes/s while consuming just 6.5 watts. Random access performance was equally impressive, reaching over 2 million IOPS.
The company also showcased a mainstream SSD with PCIe 5.0, featuring a maximum storage capacity of 2 TB, no DRAM support, and four NAND channels. This model operates with lower power consumption, consuming only 5 watts.
Both SSDs are likely to be released under the WD_Black label, but further details remain unavailable.
WDC also unveiled ambitious plans for memory cards:
- A MicroSD card with an unprecedented 4 TBytes of storage capacity.
- An SD card boasting 8 TBytes of storage.
- While these capacities are groundbreaking, their market release date and availability remain unknown.
The company currently offers a 2 TB MicroSD card, produced in collaboration with Kioxia. However, a WDC-branded 4 TB SD card announced earlier this year has not yet been released.
