In the Gyeonggi regional primary to decide the next leadership of the Democratic Party of Korea, Lee Jae-myung, the party’s representative candidate, recorded an overwhelming approval rating of over 90%.
On the 10th, the Democratic Party Election Management Committee announced the results of the online vote of Gyeonggi Province party members at the Bucheon Gymnasium in Wonmi-gu, Bucheon-si, Gyeonggi Province, and announced that this candidate recorded 93.27%. Candidate Kim Du-gwan recorded 5.48%, and candidate Kim Ji-soo recorded 1.25%.
The number of party members eligible to vote in the Gyeonggi region was 272,757, of which 97,304 (35.67%) participated in the online vote.
The candidate expressed his feelings about his landslide victory in Gyeonggi, his “political hometown,” saying, “Gyeonggi is the place that raised politician Lee Jae-myung. I think the expectations of Gyeonggi residents are high, and I will do my best in the role given to me with this vote count. Thank you.”
Regarding the observation that former South Gyeongsang Province Governor Kim Kyeong-soo could become a rallying point for the pro-Moon (pro-Moon Jae-in) faction if he is included in the list of candidates for the August 15 Liberation Day special pardon, he said, “The more diverse and numerous the candidates, the better,” and “We have requested the reinstatement of former Governor Kim through various direct and indirect routes.”
Then, in response to the question, “Did you mention the reinstatement at the summit with President Yoon Seok-yeol last time?” he answered, “It wasn’t during the summit, so it’s inappropriate to reveal it, but I requested it through various routes.”
