Operating Rooms at Santa Croce Hospital in Fano Under Threat of Closure
The Democratic Party in Fano has expressed concern over the imminent closure of operating rooms at the Santa Croce hospital. These closures are allegedly due to a lack of anesthetists, a claim vehemently denied by the hospital management.
Regional councilor Renato Claudio stated that the hospital’s claims of addressing the issue through new hires ring hollow, citing a meager recruitment drive that resulted in the hiring of only one anesthetist and three students. This fall in staffing has led to the closure of several operating rooms throughout the summer months.
The consequences of these closures extend far beyond the operating rooms themselves. Departments across the hospital, including Senology, Gynecology, Day Surgery, Ophthalmology, and ENT, are facing reduced services due to the lack of available operating rooms. Notably, the Breast Unit in Senology is expected to see a 16-operation per week reduction, leaving cancer patients facing potential delays in treatment.
Councilor Claudio urges the hospital’s president and director to address the situation and fulfill their commitments to staff and patients.
