Meteorologist Iván Torres warned of possible tornadoes in the country, while the Chilean Meteorological Office confirmed that two thunderstorm warnings remain active.
The Chilean Meteorological Directorate confirmed that two warnings for possible thunderstorms remain active, while meteorologist Ivan Torres warned of possible tornadoes in the coming days in the south-central area of the country, due to the presence of a frontal system.
According to the organization’s report, these two sectors would be affected by thunderstorms, which in some areas will last until tonight.
The first warning covers the regions of La Araucanía, Los Ríos and Los Lagos, while the second includes the regions of Coquimbo, Valparaíso, O’Higgins, Maule, Ñuble and Biobío.
Possible tornadoes after thunderstorms
For his part, meteorologist Iván Torres stated on 24 Horas Tu Mañana that “we cannot rule out the possibility of tornadic activity, whether tornadoes inland or waterspouts in the southern part of the country.”
He added that these events could occur between the Biobío and Los Lagos regions, since “this area looks quite unstable”.
“There are clouds called cumulonimbus that are in that area and a small tornado could eventually form, that’s a probability”, the specialist pointed out.
Ivan Torres confirmed that “we are going to have thunderstorms from Maule to the south”.
