Chile-Venezuela Diplomatic Tensions Escalate
The Chilean diplomatic delegation in Venezuela is led by Ambassador Jaime Gazmuri, who will be forced to leave the country following an announcement by Caracas.
The Venezuelan regime demanded the departure of all Chilean diplomatic representatives in the country, after La Moneda did not recognize the victory of Nicolás Maduro in the presidential elections held this Sunday.
Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil made the announcement, stating that Caracas will also withdraw its diplomatic personnel from Chile and six other countries, including Peru, Argentina, and Uruguay.
In a public statement, Gil expressed strong rejection of “interventionist actions and statements” by certain governments, accusing them of promoting “ideological fascism.”
The foreign minister also claimed that these governments are attempting to undermine the failed Lima Group by ignoring the election results of the recent presidential election.
“In the face of this disastrous precedent that threatens our national sovereignty,” the Caracas representative stated, “we decide to withdraw all diplomatic personnel from missions in Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, Peru, Panama, the Dominican Republic and Uruguay.”
Caracas further emphasized its opposition to “interventionist and harassing statements” that attempt to disregard the will of the Venezuelan people.
