The central district of Kharkiv was targeted by Russian shelling early this morning, with preliminary reports suggesting the use of an Iskander missile. The alarm remains active, with further shelling likely.
The city’s mayor, Igor Terekhov, confirmed the attack, stating that the explosions occurred around 10 a.m. local time and targeted a densely populated area. The strike damaged a clinic and several other civilian buildings, with casualties still being confirmed.
Emergency services have responded to the scene, and initial reports suggest an Iskander missile was used in the attack. Two individuals reportedly suffered acute stress reactions and sought medical attention.
Further explosions were reported throughout the night, with the first occurring around 12:35 a.m. and the last around 2:00 a.m.
Russian forces also launched a comprehensive attack on Ukraine earlier today, employing:
- 4 Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles
- 2 guided aircraft missiles X-59
- 16 Shahed-type attack UAVs
Ukrainian air defense systems were successful in intercepting 19 of the attacking aircraft.
Earlier reports also emerged of a missile attack on Kyiv, with several missiles fired towards the capital region, though these were successfully intercepted by air defense.
