(24News) To address the passport crisis, the authorities have decided to invest in new and modern equipment.
In response to the crisis, the passport authorities have taken several measures to expedite the issuance process. These include the purchase of 20 new laminators and 20 printers, along with 5 modern RMP and 2 e-passport printers. With these additions, the office can now print 1,000 passports in an hour, significantly improving the previous rate.
Furthermore, the printing capacity is expected to increase from 22,000 to 55,000 per day with the new equipment. The passport authorities have also secured a supply of lamination paper for the next six months. Additionally, plans are underway to order new printers on a regular basis, every two months, to maintain optimal capacity.
To enhance processing speed, a new database is being created to facilitate faster verification of data from other institutions such as NADRA. Simultaneously, the renovation work of the passport office building is ongoing.
