Mexican Consul in Shanghai Insults Diplomatic Staff in Video
After the Consul of Shanghai, China, Leopoldo Díaz, starred in a video where he insulted and threatened the diplomatic staff of the Mexican consulate, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that a disciplinary process has been initiated against the official.
“Protective measures have been taken and the corresponding disciplinary processes have been initiated to address recent events,” the statement read.
A video went viral on social media showing Consul Díaz insulting and threatening the diplomatic staff, who allegedly denied a visa to a young man.
During the heated exchange, Consul Díaz was heard telling one of the workers, “I am your boss! You are under my command.” He also threatened Isidro Rodríguez, another consul, saying, “I’ll kick your ass! You’re an asshole, that’s what you are!”
The consul of Shanghai receives a salary of $8,444, which is approximately 159,373 pesos.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement:
“Events at the Consulate General of Mexico in Shanghai.”
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports that protective measures have been taken and the corresponding disciplinary processes have been initiated to address recent events.”
