Chilean Actors Union Files Lawsuit Against Mega and Canal 13
The president of the Chilean actors’ union, ChileActores, recently filed a lawsuit against the Mega and Canal 13 television channels for failing to comply with payments and contracts.
The complaint, filed with the 5th Civil Court of Santiago, alleges that both stations have violated the current rate contracts that have been in effect since 2018. ChileActores claims that Mega owes interpreters $45 million pesos through the last quarter of 2023, while Canal 13 owes approximately $61 million.
The union president, Hope Silva, expressed his outrage at the situation, stating, “They add signs, use our works more intensively, and despite this, they intend to pay less than agreed.”
Silva further accused Mega of building a “tremendous business” with Chilean soap operas, suggesting they have violated intellectual property laws by failing to pay fees.
ChileActores also shared a statement on Instagram, confirming the lawsuit and emphasizing their responsibility to enforce payment rights.
