On Wednesday and Thursday, the National Oil Corporation discussed, in two technical meetings with officials of Mellitah Oil and Gas Company, the company’s activities for the year 2024, and its completed and upcoming projects in onshore fields and offshore platforms to achieve an increase in production estimated at 30,000 barrels per day, in addition to discussing the company’s budget for the year 2025.
The Corporation’s officials were also briefed on the work being carried out in the marine structure (A) to transport about 160 million cubic feet of gas per day to the Mellitah Industrial Complex, and to enhance the stability of gas supplies in the future.
The two meetings were attended by the directors of the technical departments of the institution, members of the company’s management committee, specialists, technicians and financial personnel from both sides, and representatives of the Libyan and Al-Jawf technology companies and the foreign partner, the Italian company Eni.
Mellitah Oil and Gas Company was established pursuant to the decision of the former General People’s Committee No. (253) of 2008, issued on December 4, 2008, approving the basis of the agreement concluded between the National Oil Corporation and Eni North Africa Company on October 16, 2007, which stipulates the merger of the assets and activities of both Eni Oil Company and Mellitah Gas Company, and its implementation shall begin on January 1, 2008.
The company manages a number of onshore oil fields spread across various regions of Libya, and offshore fields represented by three offshore platforms and a floating tank.
The company also operates a network of land pipelines of various sizes extending thousands of kilometers, and part of the processed natural gas is exported from the Mellitah Industrial Complex via a marine pipeline (32 inches in diameter and 516 km long) that connects the Mellitah Industrial Complex to the southern coast of Italy and is operated by the Green Stream Company. This marine export line is the first link between Libya and Europe.
Mellitah Oil and Gas Company also contributes to meeting a large part of the local consumption needs of natural gas that feeds power plants.
