US, EU, India and Pakistan Welcome Bangladesh’s Interim Government
The Interim Government of Bangladesh, led by Dr. Yunus, has been warmly welcomed by the United States, the European Union (EU), India, and Pakistan.
US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller expressed support for the interim government, stating that it will pave the way for future democracy in Bangladesh. The US Charge d’Affaires also attended the swearing-in ceremony.
The EU foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell, emphasized the EU’s desire to work with the new administration in their democratic transition process. “This process must be peaceful and participatory,” he added.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his hopes for deeper relations with Bangladesh, offering his congratulations to Dr. Yunus. He stated this in a social media message.
China also welcomed the interim government, pledging to continue cooperation and exchange with Bangladesh.
It’s worth noting that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned on August 5th amidst the quota reform movement, leading to the dissolution of the National Parliament. The interim government was sworn in on Thursday night after almost four days.
