Greek Duo Gains Ground After Protest at Olympic Games
The Greek duo of Evangelia Plataniti and Sofia Malkogeorgou made a significant climb in the synchronized swimming competition at the Olympic Games in Paris. Following a protest regarding the scoring of the two athletes, their overall score was increased, propelling them up five places.
The Greek pair had attempted a highly difficult routine, the highest among the 17 pairs participating, but it was ultimately disqualified by the judges. The deduction of points significantly impacted their initial score.
The protest was successful, the difficulty score was restored, and the overall score increased significantly. Currently, Plataniti and Malkogeorgou sit in eighth place with 250.4584 points, just a small margin behind the top six duos.
The Chinese pair, Liuji Wang and Qianyi Wang, holds the lead with 276.7867 points in the technical program. The Austrian sisters Anna-Maria and Irini Alexandri are in second with 267.2533 points, while the Dutch sisters De Brouwer follow closely behind with 264.7066.
The final result of the synchronized swimming competition will be determined by the sum of the scores from both the technical and free duet programs.
