Most of the public in the State of Israel doubts the credibility of the government’s declarations of their intention to act against the cost of living, and believe that they should take to the streets and demonstrate against the cost of living, according to a poll published in Maariv.

An overwhelming majority of the public, 79%, believe that in view of the rising cost of living it is time to take to the streets, as in the social protest of the summer of 2011. 12% oppose the resumption of protest.

According to the survey, 67% of the public do not believe that the government really wants to lower the cost of living in Israel, despite statements made on the subject by Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and the Ministers of Finance, Economy, Agriculture and others. On the other hand, only 30% of the public trust the government’s statement of intent, and only 3% have no opinion on the matter.

The survey, conducted on February 23, featured 512 members of Panel4All’s respondents’ panel for online research (a request to participate in the survey was sent to 3,020 panelists). The survey was conducted on a representative sample of the adult population in the State of Israel aged 18 and over, Jews and Arabs alike. The maximum sampling error in this survey is 4.3%.

In addition 81% of respondents believe that the plan presented by the Prime Minister and the Minister of Finance to deal with the cost of living will not help them deal with the situation. This emerges from another survey conducted by the Tefen advisory group.
