Sofia University Hosts Japanese Delegation

Sofia University welcomed a delegation from the Group for Friendship with Bulgaria in the Upper House of the Japanese Parliament. Leading the delegation was its chairman, Junichi Ishii, along with general secretary Kazuhiko Aoki and Masahito Fujikawa. The visit was also graced by the presence of the Japanese Ambassador to Bulgaria, Hisashi Michigami.
The Department of Japanese Studies, representing Sofia University, hosted the delegation. Ch. assistant Stella Zivkova, ch. assistant professor Martin Dimitrov, and ch. assistant Simeon Hinkovski led the university’s contingent. They offered a tour of the Rector’s building, sharing its rich history and the long-standing tradition of Japanese language and culture at Sofia University.
During their visit, the guests met with three alumni of the Japanese studies program – Sonia Eneva, Violeta Petrova, and Konstantin Kirov. They discussed their professional experiences utilizing the Japanese language across diverse fields and their insightful journeys studying and living in Japan.
The meeting also explored the current state and future prospects of Bulgarian-Japanese relations. The delegation expressed their commitment to fostering these ties and highlighted the crucial role of university-level Japanese studies in strengthening cultural exchange and human connection between the two nations.
