Electoral Institute Promotes Inclusion with New Council Appointments in Mexico City
As part of its ongoing inclusion initiatives, the Electoral Institute of Mexico City (IECM) announced that 27% of the councillors elected for the upcoming mayoralties will be filled by individuals from priority care groups. This move aims to enhance diversity and representation within the city’s governing bodies.
The IECM clarified that these councillors will serve as governing bodies for the city’s demarcations, responsible for monitoring the mayor’s performance and approving the Draft Expenditure Budget.

A total of 56 council seats will be occupied by individuals from priority groups, with 36 elected through Relative Majority and 20 through Proportional Representation.
The priority group with the highest representativeness is young people, with 32 spaces allocated to them. Additionally, 20 seats will be filled by women, 12 by men, 9 by individuals of sexual diversity, 9 by indigenous towns and neighborhoods or communities, and 6 by older adults.
