Commodity Prices Fluctuate on Global Markets
August 11, 2024 – The prices of various cereals experienced a volatile week on global exchanges, according to experts at the Sofia Stock Exchange (SSE).
The FOB price of bread wheat in Chicago climbed by $5 to $218 per tonne for September delivery, while in France it dropped by €4 to €220 per tonne. Prices in Ukraine and Russia remained unchanged at $220 and $220 per tonne, respectively.
The price of corn also fluctuated, falling by $2 to $181 per tonne in the USA, while it rose by 2 euros to 207 euros per tonne in France and by 4 dollars to 210 dollars per tonne in Ukraine.
Other commodities also witnessed price changes. Barley in Ukraine increased by $5 to $188 per tonne, while rapeseed on the Euronext exchange fell by €3.50 to €469 per tonne. Crude sunflower oil contracts in Rotterdam also dipped by $5 to $1,055 per tonne. Refined sugar, on the other hand, rose by $3.10 to $526.60 per tonne in London.
At the Sofia Commodity Exchange, trading remained calm, with bread wheat available for BGN 388 per ton with EXW delivery and feed wheat at BGN 340 per ton. Corn was available in the range of BGN 360 to BGN 380 per ton, while sunflower oil was priced between BGN 820 and BGN 840 per ton.
The prices of basic food commodities remained stable on the SSB, with bottled oil at BGN 2.20 per liter and unrefined oil at BGN 1,750 per ton. Yellow peas were available for one ton at a starting price of BGN 1,200 per ton.
Other transactions during the week included propane butane gas, ranging from BGN 983.33 to BGN 1,050 per thousand l, and ferrous metal scrap, trading between BGN 407 and BGN 528.82 per ton.
