Nobel laureate Dr. Hussain Muhammad Ershad’s ex-wife, Vidisha, has called for reforms in the current leadership of the National Party by welcoming the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus.
She told RisingBD on Sunday (August 11), “I want to see Ershad Saheb’s mainstream Jatiya Party again in the hands of competent leadership. Who can reflect the hopes and aspirations of this generation? Let’s reshape Ershad Saheb’s Jatiya Party through reforms. Only then will the expectations of the country and nation be fulfilled. And the departed soul of Ershad Sahib will rest in peace.”
Vidisha expressed grief over the current state of the Jatiya Party, stating, “After Ershad’s death, the National Party lost a strong leadership.” She added, “Today the Jatiya Party is condemned and cursed by the people. The main reason is that the party supported the previous fascist government without valuing the aspirations of the people.”
She concluded by saying, “There have been repeated anti-domestic parties. But people had trust and love for this party as long as Ershad led it.”
