Alejandro Moreno Re-elected as PRI President
On Sunday, August 11th, Alejandro Moreno Cardenas was officially re-elected as president of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI). This occurred during the party’s ordinary internal process for electing titular persons, which also saw the selection of a new general secretary.
The event took place at the “Plutarco Elias Calles” auditorium in the PRI National Executive Committee facilities in the Buenavista colony of Mexico City. The vote was closed at 3:00 p.m. and resulted in Moreno securing 97% of the votes.
Moreno expressed his gratitude to the PRI militants for their trust and pledged to lead the party on a new path of reflection and work, aiming to achieve victories throughout Mexico.

Despite the overwhelming victory, Moreno’s re-election is still subject to legal challenges regarding the party’s internal regulations. Some former PRI presidents who are not aligned with Moreno have challenged the recent amendments to the party’s statutes. The National Electoral Institute (INE) also reserves the right to intervene if any irregularities are identified in the electoral process.
