(24News)⁢ Hundreds of Awami League workers protested​ in support of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in Gopalganj ⁤and Barguna, two cities in ​Bangladesh, demanding that their party leader be brought back to⁤ the country.

During the protest demonstration, supporters of Sheikh Hasina were carrying sticks, hockey sticks, and sharp tools. Gopalganj is Sheikh Hasina’s native place. She had resigned as Prime Minister and left for India, and the protestors alleged that she was forced to leave the country due⁢ to a conspiracy.

Foreign‌ media ‌reported​ that Awami League workers ⁤also ⁣set fire to a vehicle belonging to the Bangladeshi army during‌ the demonstration. Several people were injured in ⁤the incident. The General Secretary of Awami League⁣ in ⁤Gopalganj, Shahabuddin Azam, stated that the protests would continue‌ until ⁣Sheikh Hasina was returned to the country with dignity.

In Barguna, around 350 Awami League workers also held a protest march. The local leader of Awami ‍League, Jahangir Kabir, declared that the party ​would ⁤not ‌remain inactive and emphasized‍ that its strength⁤ lies in its people, not its military. Other⁤ local‍ leaders echoed this sentiment, claiming ​that Sheikh Hasina had not fled the country‌ but ‌was forced to ​remain outside due to the political situation.
