Organized under the auspices of the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication, “Partitions of the African Imagination” is a hymn that the artist dedicates to the continent, the organizers announced in a press release on Friday.
The exhibition features a diverse range of works, including drawings, paintings, installations, sculptures, and objects, masks, and trinkets. The artist notes that “the creations and their sources of inspiration intersect, dialogue, challenge each other in an original scenography calling upon our five senses to appreciate the display and its atmosphere.”
Moustapha Zoufri, born in Nador, studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels, where he earned a degree in plastic and visual arts. He also attended the Higher School of Plastic and Visual Arts in Mons.
A visual arts teacher at the Brussels-Wallonia Federation of Belgium, Zoufri has participated in numerous collective and solo exhibitions in Morocco and Europe and has created several murals in Belgium.
In November 2016, he installed the sculpture “The Flame of Hope” in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean, a tribute to the victims of the Paris and Brussels attacks. In 2018, he gifted the city of Oujda a sculpture to mark the conclusion of the “Oujda, capital of Arab culture” events.
He is also responsible for the monumental fresco “African Symphony,” which adorns one of the facades of the Mohammed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rabat.
