PKS Criticizes President Jokowi and Health Minister Regarding Contraceptives for Students
On Friday, August 9, 2024, Member of Commission IX of the Indonesian House of Representatives Ansory Siregar criticized the government of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) regarding the issuance of PP 28 of 2024 concerning Health, which has sparked controversy. One of the contentious points is the provision of contraceptives for school-age teenagers.
Ansory, a member of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) faction, expressed regret over the controversial regulation, which was issued just three months before the end of President Jokowi’s term.
The DPR member for Electoral District 3 of North Sumatra argued that PP 28 of 2024 is a responsible elaboration of the mandate contained in Law Number 17 of 2023 concerning Health. However, he acknowledged the widespread controversy and public rejection surrounding its contents.
Ansory directly criticized President Jokowi and Health Minister Budi Gunadi, stating, “Mr. President and Mr. Minister of Health, do not end your term of office by opening up space for the younger generation to commit adultery.” He expressed similar concerns to constituents in Jakarta and several other regions.
