Mega Reforestation Day 2024 Kicks Off in La Magdalena Contreras
Today, with the participation of 200 people, including staff from various departments of the Mayor’s Office, ejidatarios, and residents of the Ejido of San Nicolás Totolapan, Mayor Luis Gerardo “El Guero” Quijano inaugurated the Mega Reforestation Day 2024 in the Ejidal Park of San Nicolas Totolapan in the Magdalena Contreras City Hall.
In his welcoming address, Mayor Contreras highlighted that during his administration, over 46 thousand trees and plants have been planted in green areas, conservation land, and urban areas of La Magdalena Contreras. He emphasized that this event marks the official start of this year’s Day, but that work to restore the environment had already begun several months ago.
The Mayor thanked the Ecology Department, Corenadr staff, Conafor, and Protected Natural Areas and Ravines of Mexico City for their participation in these efforts.
The event was also addressed by Juan Ortiz Tenorio, President of the Ejidal St. Nicholas Totolapan, who emphasized the importance of shared responsibility in caring for the environment and the newly planted trees. Environmental activist and artistic producer Irene Arcila also spoke, urging the importance of teaching children to take care of the environment and setting a positive example.
Reforestation Efforts in La Magdalena Contreras
These reforestation efforts consist of two aspects:
- Reforestation of trees and plants in Conservation Land and green areas.
- Reforestation in urban areas.
During the event, 2,000 fir trees were planted, specifically chosen for their high survival rate in the climate and soil conditions of Contreras.
