The United Nations mission expressed deep concern over the armed clashes that erupted in Tajoura and the subsequent military build-up in and around the capital, Tripoli.
The mission condemned reports of civilian casualties, injuries, and displacement of many families.
The Mission also condemned the use of heavy weapons and ammunition by the warring factions in populated areas, calling on all parties to prioritize the protection of civilians at all times.
The mission welcomed the de-escalation efforts and the agreement to cease hostilities, calling on all parties to fully adhere to it.
The mission emphasized that these clashes highlight the urgent need to unify the military and security services and establish legitimate and accountable institutions, and also called for expediting the launch of a comprehensive political process leading to credible elections.
Earlier today, sporadic clashes broke out inside the Tajoura municipality and were renewed this morning in some locations in Al-Qara Boli and Al-Quway’ah.
The Tripoli branch of the Red Crescent Society announced this evening the end of the state of emergency and the reopening of the roads that were closed by earth mounds.
