The newly appointed head coach, Hong Myung-bo, has guided the South Korean national soccer team to advance to the third round of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North and Central America. Their first match will be played at Seoul World Cup Stadium on September 5th, followed by an away match in Oman on the 10th.
The Korea Football Association (KFA) announced on the 12th that the schedule for the first and second matches of Group B in the Asian qualifiers has been released. The first match will be against Palestine, while the second match will be against Oman.
The national team, aiming to qualify for the World Cup for the 11th consecutive time, has been placed in Group B with Iraq, Jordan, Oman, Palestine, and Kuwait in the third round of 2026 North and Central American World Cup qualifiers. These teams are all from the Middle East, and they will need to overcome the “sand storm” to advance.
The third round of the North and Central American World Cup qualifiers will be divided into three groups of six teams each. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the World Cup finals, while the third and fourth-placed teams will compete for the remaining 2.5 places through the fourth round of Asian region qualifiers.
The maximum number of places allocated to Asia for the World Cup is 8.5.
