Police Arrest Suspect in Homicide Near President Boric’s Home
The Chilean Police (PDI) confirmed the arrest of a suspect in the homicide that occurred just half a kilometer from President Gabriel Boric’s house.
The North Central Homicide Brigade of the PDI confirmed that the alleged perpetrator was arrested of a homeless person who was burned in the Yungay neighborhood, in the commune of Santiago, Metropolitan Region.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday when the victim was sleeping in the vicinity of the intersection of Catedral and García Reyes streets, just half a kilometer from the president’s home. The suspect set fire to the house, which ended the life of the homeless person.
Details of the Arrest
Commissioner Juan Álvarez, from the North Central Homicide Brigade of the PDI, explained that they achieved the “location and arrest of a 42-year-old citizen” for the homicide by arson of a homeless person in Barrio Yungay. The suspect was initially taken to the former Posta Central due to the severity of his injuries, where he later died.
According to the police officer, “based on the procedures carried out, both scientific and technical work at the scene of the incident, witness statements and mainly analysis of the security means of the sector, it was possible to prove his responsibility in the event.”
The attack is believed to have originated from an argument with another individual who is in the same condition. Later, this last individual returned to the place and set fire to the hut in which the person with whom he argued was staying.
As a result of this situation, the victim was left with more than 90% of his body burned and died in the former Posta Central due to the severity of his injuries.
