A tragedy occurred in the south of Chile this weekend following the death of Rodrigo Cansino Aravena, a teacher who was the victim of a traffic accident in the early hours of Saturday in Osorno, Los Lagos region. The incident happened in the Pichil sector.
The driver of the vehicle, under the influence of alcohol, was responsible for the collision that resulted in Cansino’s death. The collision occurred when the driver lost control of the truck, which then hit a tree.
Cansino served as head of the UTP at the Liceo Bicentenario Adolfo Matthei in Osorno, and his death caused panic within the educational establishment.
Details of the Accident
The driver, along with Cansino and two others, lost control of the truck and collided with a tree. Initially, the driver and Cansino managed to escape the vehicle on their own, while the other two people remained trapped.
Neighbor’s Account
Roman Soto, chairman of the neighborhood council in Pichil village, witnessed the aftermath of the accident and described seeing two people lying on the ground and two others trapped in the truck. He stayed with a young boy who was complaining of chest pain until paramedics arrived.
Driver’s Alcohol Test
The truck driver, Tito Vera, tested positive for alcohol with a reading of 1.24 grams per liter of blood. The prosecutor in charge of the investigation requested an extension of formalities by 48 hours due to the absence of the autopsy report.
