Several Dozens of Children Stranded in Spain After Portugal Surfing Camp Collapse
Several dozen children who had traveled to Portugal for a promised surfing camp with the company “Fisom” were stranded in Spain after the organizers vanished and failed to fulfill their obligations. The Consumer Rights Protection Center (PTAC) has intervened to bring the travelers back to Latvia.
PTAC confirmed that two buses carrying children stuck in Spain would return to Latvia on Monday. Another group of 66 tourists, including 55 minors, had their journey interrupted when a bus organized by the trip operator “Fisom” encountered technical problems. The organizer was unable to bring the travelers to Latvia.
The agency stated that they managed to secure alternative transportation and the tourists are currently continuing their journey. The estimated arrival time in Latvia is Monday evening.
PTAC has canceled the license of the tour operator “Fisom” and will provide updates on the refund process in the near future. Their primary focus is currently on bringing the children home.
The situation was brought to light after several parents reported their children missing after the organizers disappeared without explanation and failed to bring the children home. Insurance company “Balcia” assisted in organizing a repatriation flight for some of the children.
Financial information about “Fisom” shows that the company had a turnover of 356,396 euros in 2022 but operated at a loss. It was registered in 2021 and is owned by Matīss Dahlbergs.
