Bokaro: In a tragic incident in Jharkhand’s Bokaro district, an elderly woman set herself on fire in front of the police and NHAI team who had come to demolish a school for road construction. The woman said that bribes were being demanded in exchange for compensation. This incident took place in Bokaro’s Petarwar block. Here a school run by Anand Marg Sansthan was being demolished for the construction of Jainamod-Gola road under the Bharatmala Project. Administrative officials and police force along with NHAI and the road construction company NG Project had come to demolish the school.
Opposed the demolition of school without notice
The Anand Margi women present in the school protested against the demolition of the school without notice. An elderly woman accused the administration that the Land Acquisition Department was demanding a 20 percent bribe in exchange for the compensation of Rs 4 crore. Even after making rounds for the compensation amount for the last one year, the case was pending as the bribe was not paid.

Amidst the protest, an elderly woman locked herself in a room and set herself on fire. The police and people present at the spot broke the door and took her out, but she died before reaching the hospital.
The demand for bribe was rejected by the administration
As soon as the incident was reported, Bermo SDM Ashok Kumar and police force reached the spot. The body was taken into custody and sent for postmortem. SDM Ashok Kumar said that the administration has been trying for two years to pay the compensation amount, but the matter is complicated due to the fight for supremacy between two groups. He completely rejected the allegations of demanding bribe.
