Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina intends to return to Bangladesh and believes that her Awami League party will survive. This was reported by the newspaper with reference to her inner circle, Day.Az reports with reference to TASSThe Economic Times.
“With the grace of Allah, I will return soon. The Awami League has stood firm and will stand firm again,” Sheikh Hasina’s entourage quotes her as saying.
“I will always pray for the future of Bangladesh, for the nation my father fought for and for the country my family gave their lives for,” the former prime minister said.
Earlier, Sheikh Hasina’s son Sajib Wazed Joy also announced her intention to return to her homeland. According to him, his mother will not seek asylum in other countries and will return to Bangladesh when the interim government of the republic decides to hold elections.
Wazed Joy also pointed out that the head of the previous government of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, did not formally resign and remains prime minister according to the constitution. According to him, although the president dissolved parliament after consultations with the military and opposition politicians, the formation of an interim government without the actual official resignation of the prime minister “can be challenged in court.”
