The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Government of National Unity expressed its strong dissatisfaction and categorical rejection of the diplomatic step taken by the Egyptian government, by receiving “parallel bodies that do not enjoy any international recognition,” as it put it.

The statement described this step as “a departure from the unity of the international position that rejects the country’s return to a state of division and conflict,” stressing that it contradicts the expected Egyptian, Arab and regional role in supporting Libya’s unity and stability.

The Government of National Unity stressed in its statement that since the beginning of its work, it has strived to overcome the state of international polarization and deal in a balanced manner with all countries related to the Libyan file, especially with the Arab Republic of Egypt.

The statement stressed that the Libyan people will not accept returning again to the era of parallel governments and regional and international axes that led Libya to become a backyard for battles and wars with an international and regional dimension.

The ministry strongly warned that such unilateral measures only serve to return to tension, polarization and local and regional conflict, holding the Egyptian government morally and politically responsible locally, regionally and internationally.

The statement concluded with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressing that respecting the sovereignty of states, good neighborliness, and supporting their unity and legitimate institutions are fixed principles for building strong relations between states and governments.

This morning, Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly received the head of the government assigned by the House of Representatives, Osama Hamad, accompanied by the Director of the “Development and Reconstruction Fund of Libya” Belqasim Haftar, and the Chairman of the “Reconstruction and Stability Committee” Hatem Al-Aribi, in Matrouh Governorate, to discuss the role of Egyptian companies in the reconstruction of Libya.
