During the Olympics in two weeks, 212,350 visitors went to the Palace of Versailles, the host of equestrian events during the Olympic Games, or 25% less than the same period in 2023.
The Palace of Versailles, one of the most visited tourist sites in France, host of the Olympic football events, announced on Tuesday a reduction of almost 25% in its visitors during the two Olympic weeks.
“During the two weeks of the Olympic, the castle welcomed 212,350 visitors (castle, Trianon, galleries of Statues and Casts, Jeu de Paume), i.e. 25% fewer visitors, compared to the same period in 2023”, according to figures reported to AFP. This number, based on the period from July 29 to August 11, “different gardens and their displays”.
In the entire month of July, 839,700 visitors were also recorded, “down around 20% compared to the month of July 2023”.
This last number for July “includes the castle, the Trianon estate, the Sculptures and the Artifacts and the Lecturers’ galleries (the entrance open every day and free of charge during the summer), and the Jeu de room Paume” and “gardens”, where the music is shown everywhere summer around the lake and fountains.
Positive results of the Olympics
This presence “is, however, offset by visits from entertainment spectators, many of whom take advantage of their visit to explore the palaces and treasures of Versailles and Trianon,” the palace explained.
“In the 14 days of today’s training and pentathlon events, the stands of the Versailles Olympic site welcomed 16,000 spectators and 40,000 people came to watch the cross country in the park on July 28,” he specified .
The Palace of Versailles, however, said that it is “courageous” for the future and believes in the “positive” returns of the Olympic events on “coming in future years”.
On the occasion of the Olympic Games, the Palace of Versailles is also presenting a unique exhibition dedicated to the history of the horse in European civilization, which continues until November 3.
