The European Commission has today transferred almost EUR 4.2 billion in financial aid to Ukraine, DPA reported.
The purpose of the funding is to “maintain the functioning of the Ukrainian state” while Kiev fights for its survival against Russia, EC President Ursula von der Leyen wrote in “X” (X).
“Europe stands firmly behind Ukraine,” she added.
The aid is part of the EC’s plan for Ukraine, officially adopted in April, and will provide the country with €50 billion in financial assistance until the end of 2027.
With today’s amount, 12 billion euros have already been paid to Kyiv under the program, BTA reported.
Under the terms of the plan, Ukraine must reform the management of its public finances and the management of state-owned companies.
The funds will be used to pay salaries and pensions in Ukraine, provide basic services and support recovery.
Ukraine, an official candidate for EU membership, has resisted Russian invasion for more than two years with military and financial aid from the West.
