(ANSA) – ISTANBUL, 12 AUGUST – A young masked man wearing a helmet and bulletproof vest stabbed and injured at least five people – one seriously – in the garden of a mosque in Eskisehir, Turkey, before being arrested, local media reported. The suspect, armed with a long knife, aged 18, filmed his attack in the tea garden of a mosque and broadcast it live on X, before being stopped by police and taken into custody. Some media reported seven people were injured, including one lying on the ground, according to images published on X. Several websites claim the 18-year-old was wearing a “black sun” on his chest, a Nazi symbol made up of three swastikas. The attacker did not shout or give any reasons for his actions, according to the Cumhuriyet newspaper, which says he believes the young man was “influenced by war games”. “The attacker was dressed like a character from a game, with an axe on his belt, wearing a bulletproof vest and a helmet, his face masked,” the Eskisehir Durum website reported. Footage he filmed live of himself showed he was also wearing glasses over his mask, completely hiding his face. (ANSA).
