Coronavirus vaccinations must continue as death rates rise despite the decline in COVID-19 cases. The danger remains. This was announced on Sunday, February 27, by the director of the Gamaleya Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology, Alexander Gintsburg.

“The fact that the incidence has declined does not mean that the virus has ceased to be dangerous. There is also such an indicator as mortality, unfortunately, it is growing … The terrible danger remains, you need to continue to be vaccinated, ”RIA Novosti specialist quotes.

According to him, the incidence is decreasing due to the fact that a significant part of patients began to carry the coronavirus “on their feet”. In addition, it must be borne in mind that many have already been vaccinated. The scientist noted that people from the risk group mostly fall ill, because the Omicron strain is dangerous, like all previous variants of coronavirus infection.

In addition, Gunzburg stressed, mortality is increasing among those who have not been vaccinated at all, since Omicron is widespread, everyone is in contact with it, and the number of people at risk has also increased.

As reported on Saturday at the operational headquarters for combating coronavirus, over the past day, 122,995 cases of COVID-19 have been detected in Russia, 14,324 people have been hospitalized. In 24 hours in Russia, 793 people died from the consequences of the disease, 181,343 citizens fully recovered.

Earlier in the day, Alexander Gunzburg revealed that the Sputnik V vaccine is 89% effective against severe cases of coronavirus caused by the Omicron strain. If a person has given a booster vaccine, then the effectiveness is 93–94%.

On February 24, virologist, infectious disease specialist Nikolai Malyshev said that after a collision with a coronavirus, the body would have to recover for more than two years. This is especially true for the category of elderly patients and people with underlying diseases.

In the Russian Federation, a large-scale vaccination campaign is underway. Citizens are vaccinated for free. Six vaccines against coronavirus have been registered in the country: Sputnik V, which became the first vaccine against COVID-19 in the Russian Federation and the world, as well as Sputnik Light, Sputnik M, EpiVacCorona, EpiVacCorona-N and KoviVac .
