BOLZANO. At the beginning of June the tragedy: an avalanche falling from Ortles had hit the 44 year old Dieter Pardatscher of Cortina all’Adige. Yesterday a body of a man was found by the Alpine rescue and the Guardia di Finanza who exploited the faint signal received on their vehicles: the confirmation arrived, it was indeed Pardatscher.
The community of Cortina has long been in apprehension about the fate of the 44-year-old farmer Pardatscher, father of three children, and a great mountain enthusiast. He had disappeared from the morning of June 7th when, shortly after 9:00 am, he was swept away by a huge avalanche that broke away from the summit of Ortles while, together with a companion, a friend from Caldaro, he was along the Minnigerofe canal, one of the most challenging routes to the summit.
The 44-year-old was not found, also due to the challenging weather conditions. His friend, on the other hand, had only been grazed by the avalanche and had survived. The accident had occurred at an altitude of 3,700 meters. The two, it seems, were descending after having reached the summit of Ortles, where, suddenly, a large avalanche had come loose, hitting the mountaineer from Cortina squarely. His climbing companion, as mentioned, had only been grazed and had managed to survive.
He had also had the quick reflexes to raise the alarm for rescuers. The snow mass had broken away from the wall, causing the Pardatscher to slide for almost 500 meters to the base of the now infamous gully, where on May 12th Tom Arent van de Plassche, the Dutch climber who lived in Trento and worked at Salewa in Bolzano, had died. Yesterday, as mentioned, signaling devices received a weak signal that was then confirmed by a dog from the canine groups that arrived at the site of the discovery. The body, found at the bottom of a crevasse with finally little snow, was recovered by the men of the Alpine rescue and taken away by the Guardia di Finanza helicopter.
