According to a recent report, the iPhone 17 Air will be the codename for the new iPhone model expected to be launched for the first time in 2025. According to the report, this will be the fourth model alongside the standard, Pro, and Pro Max versions. While not much is known about this new smartphone, it is said to feature a unique design and a thinner form factor to distinguish it from the rest of the lineup. Although this has not been confirmed, rumors have claimed that this smartphone will replace the Plus model.
The iPhone 17 Air may be launched next year
Mark Gurman from Bloomberg highlighted in the Power On newsletter that Apple is working on a new form factor for next year’s iPhone series. The smartphone will have an extremely thin design that will make it stand out from the other models, with Gurman stating, “The idea is to create some sort of ‘Air’ version of the iPhone, which is something that falls between the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro.”
According to a previous report, this smartphone could also signify the end of the Plus model introduced with the iPhone 14 series, which replaced the company’s “Mini” models. There were rumors about naming the smartphone iPhone 17 Slim, but Gurman claims it will instead be named iPhone 17 Air.
The report also claims that the smartphone will not feature the performance, screen size, or cameras of the Pro models, but will instead focus on its unique design and form factor. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo previously mentioned that the smartphone may feature a mid-frame made of titanium and a single 48-megapixel rear camera.
It is said to come with a 6.6-inch display with a resolution of 1260 x 2740 pixels and a Dynamic Island. Under the hood, it might be equipped with an Apple A19 chip, which is said to be the entry-level processor in iPhones that year. Meanwhile, the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max may contain the A19 Pro SoC.
It is still early days in the smartphone production cycle, and since the rumors have not been confirmed by Apple, take them with a healthy dose of skepticism. Details about the iPhone 17 Air model, including its name, will not be revealed until the tech giant launches the smartphone in 2025.
