The Argentine prosecutor’s office on Wednesday charged former president Alberto Fernandez, who resigned last December, for “assault and battery with aggravated circumstances” against his ex-husband. Fabiola Yañez, who currently lives in Spain, spoke via video conference with Argentine judge Julian Ercolin in early August.
The request, of which AFP has a copy, follows a complaint filed last week by Fabiola Yañez, 43, against Alberto Fernandez, 65, with whom she lived for ten years. Since the complaint, the president has already been banned from leaving the country.
The case of this suspected crime emerged in a separate investigation, led by the same judge, targeting Alberto Fernandez for misappropriation of funds during his administration. During this process, exchanges between the former first lady and secretary Alberto Fernandez mentioned violence between the couple.
