Tunisia discusses with US envoy the political path in Libya

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad, Nabil Ammar, discussed a number of issues with Ambassador Richard Norland, US Special Envoy to Libya.

The meeting reviewed the political track in Libya, where Minister Ammar stressed “Tunisia’s firm position on the necessity that the solution be “Libyan, Libyan” within a framework of consensus and Libyan leadership under the auspices of the United Nations.”

Ammar reiterated Tunisia’s support for all efforts aimed at finding a comprehensive and permanent settlement that guarantees Libya’s security, stability, unity, and the sovereignty of its people over its national wealth and capabilities.

For his part, the US envoy appreciated “Tunisia’s positive and constructive role in bringing the views of the Libyan parties closer together,” stressing “his country’s position rejecting the imposition of solutions by force by any party.”

The US envoy expressed “readiness to coordinate with Tunisia in order to push towards reaching a political settlement based on dialogue and negotiation.”
